About this course
In today's digital age, understanding and applying ethical principles is crucial to maintaining integrity, privacy, and well-being in higher education. An online course entitled 'An Introduction to Digital Ethics' has been co-developed by the Centre of Holistic Teaching and Learning (CHTL) at HKBU and the Digital Content and Programming division of the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia. This 8-hour online course, complemented by 2 optional live sessions (totaling 2.5 hours), addresses the growing need for ethical awareness and practices in digital environments.
During the course, you will explore the common definitions of digital ethics, examine right and wrong ethical behaviours in the higher education context, and identify the basic principles of digital ethics related to academic integrity, accessibility, digital well-being, security, and privacy. The course is divided into four comprehensive modules, each covering a key aspect of digital ethics:
1. What is Digital Ethics?
2. Basic Data Ethics: Use & Protection
3. Generative AI Ethics
4. Digital Wellbeing
The course will be delivered through the KEEP Moodle platform, providing you with a variety of interactive features and learning activities, such as video clips, articles, case studies, reflection tasks, quizzes, online discussion forums, and livestream sessions.

Open to all levels of academics in higher education
Certificate Of Completion:
Learners who successfully complete all four modules, together with the learning activities and the final reflection task (i.e. completion rate > 80%), will receive a certificate of completion.
